Worth the Chance
by Vi Keeland
Book 2 of the MMA Fighter Series

5 stars

I am in love with this series! ...Ok fine, that's kind of a stretch since I haven't yet read the first book, WORTH THE FIGHT, but seeing as the main characters there also show up a lot in this book and I like them a lot, then the assumption goes. =D

So why do I love this book? For starters, Liv and Vinny are very likable (just want to point out that I'm not really a fan of the name 'Vinny', lol, but the character more than makes up for that!). Liv is an intelligent woman who is working hard to reach her dreams, and that is to become a writer at a prestigious local paper. Vinny, at first, seems like a delinquent. Or at least he probably would have been given the kind of environment he grew up in. Thank God for Nico, the hero of the previous book. I don't know the particulars, but I gathered that it was him and his wife Elle who steered him to the straight and narrow. Oh, and he's an MMA fighter. Needless to say he's gorgeous in face and body!

As suggested by the synopsis, these two knew each other a long time ago. Actually, they went to the same high school. Liv was the smart girl who tutored Vinny in English. Even then he was already drawing the eyes and attention of girls in the campus. Liv was a late bloomer, but that didn't mean Vince didn't see her value. It's actually toe-curling knowing just how much he actually cared for her even then. When they first set eyes on each, oh gosh.. instant chemistry! And I absolutely loved it!

I loved how Vi Keeland wove in those chapters recalling what happened seven years earlier. It flowed smoothly into the present time. Those chapters put me in the mood for more of their love story.

Vinny displayed your usual alpha-caveman tendencies. With the exception of the one thing that frequently annoyed Liv, it's actually flattering what he says and does whenever he shows his displeasure at having other men look at her or touch her. For her part, Liv isn't a simpering miss. She doesn't let herself be beaten down by bitter, corporate climbers whose only merits are connections to high-ranking suits. She takes challenges gamely. Tutoring the most sought-after guy in school had been a challenge, and now she's facing challenges at work. Most importantly, she has a strong sense of ethics and knows the difference between what's good and what's right.

There was a twist that I didn't see coming. That conflict did worry me, especially when my kindle showed around 94% I think and it still wasn't resolved. Vi Keeland was able to come up with something that worked perfectly though! It tied up that main conflict, plus another one, nicely.

When it comes to steam, WORTH THE CHANCE scores high in my book. Those scenes were well-written. Nothing acrobatic, thank God. Vinny says the hottest things though, and that for me made those scenes shoot up the steam scale!
All you gotta do is say no, Liv. But, I'm giving you fair warning... if you tell me no, I'm going to take you. And then you're mine to do as I please.
Reach up. Grab the headboard with both hands. If you keep them there, I won't bind you to it.

I wish though that we'd seen more of the self-defense lessons that Vinny taught and Liv signed up for. They were just glossed over except for one session. It would have been fantastic seeing Vince take advantage of the personal contact required for those classes. I definitely remembered The Scars of Us, that one did it excellently in my opinion. :)

But that aside, I absolutely enjoyed WORTH THE CHANCE! It was steamy, it was sexy, there was even a moment when my hands grew cold and went  OMG, OMG, OMG..! This book definitely kept me on my toes, and had them curling numerous times too! I love it, I love it, I love Vinny and I love him with Liv. Again, I can't wait for Vi Keeland's fans to read it! If you haven't read any of her books yet, I recommend this one!

Synopsis:

Meet Liv Michaels
It may have been seven years, but I’d know him anywhere.  Sure, he’s grown, filled out in all the right places, but his captivating blue eyes and cocky grin are exactly the way I remember.  Even though I’d much rather forget.

Liv Michaels is almost there.  She’s smart, determined and weeks away from landing the job she’s dreamed about for years.  Time healed old wounds, even her broken heart from the devastation of being crushed by her first love.

Meet Vince Stone
Women love a fighter, especially a good one.  Lucky for me, I’m damn good.  But there’s one woman that isn’t interested.  Not again, anyway.

Vince ‘The Invincible’ Stone is every woman’s fantasy…strong, sexy, confident and completely in control.  Growing up surrounded by chaos, he’s learned never to get too attached. Love will drag you down.  He adores women, treats them well, puts their own needs before his own…for the night anyway.  With the biggest fight of his life coming up, his focus should be on training.

When fate brings Vince & Liv back together again, there’s no denying the chemistry is still there.  But can Vince erase the old scars their past left behind? Or will Liv hurt him instead?
