Synopsis:
A love story that can only end in tragedy...
She was never part of the plan.
She was never to become anything.
She was simply a payment, and once the debt was settled, she would be nothing to me.
She thought her life had changed in a blink of an eye the moment she came home to see her father strapped to a chair, a gun being held to his head. It was my life that changed that day, not hers.
The blood of my enemy ran through her veins, and no matter how much she wanted to save me, she never would have. I am a monster. I can't be saved. I would consume the world in a blaze of fire before my need for vengeance was ever fulfilled.
They say the truth will set you free…
I thought she had betrayed me in ways I never expected, but in the end, it was I who had committed the ultimate betrayal.
Doubts ruin, truths hurt, and just one lie can destroy an entire army. If being the king has taught me anything, it's that everyone desires the truth, but no one wants to be honest.
The monster inside of me has been set free, and I will stop at nothing to destroy my enemies.
I am a living, breathing, killing machine... This war has just begun.
My Review: ★★★★ 4 stars
I made it no secret that the prequel both frustrated and impressed me. The writing was good, but the story placed me in a funk. You can read my review on INDEBTED here.
Now for INEVITABLE: Thank goodness JL Beck put us out of our misery and immediately answered the ultimate WTF question at the end of book 1! So with that settled and out of the way, we immediately dive into the next pressing matter of how on earth will the surviving characters get out of all the brewing trouble alive.
I will keep this review short because I don't want to spoil people, especially those who have already read the first book. Let me just say that this one is still just as high-intensity. The emotions of the remaining characters are laid out on the table, and being held out raw and in the open… it led to some interesting realizations about each of them.
Alzerro's struggle remains to be whether or not he can live outside the culture of the mafia. He has been made to realize again and again that killing people in the name of revenge will only bring temporary satisfaction—if it will bring satisfaction at all. In fairness to him he does recognize the merits of what he's being made to realize. The problem is he has been entrenched in this cruel, merciless, and violent way of life since childhood. He practically doesn't know how to behave otherwise. His immediate response to a rude waitress is to pull out his gun and show her who's boss, for example. It is a personal struggle, even more so for those around him who don't live in the ways of the mafia.
I would sooo love to share some of the quotes I loved best in the book, but they are major spoilers. I went crazy with my kindle highlights, let me tell you. Zerro is one of those fictional characters who goes through so much mental, emotional and spiritual transformation, and it takes him two books to go through it all. The process wasn't abrupt or cheesy, and hands down to the author for that.
There are parts where Zerro absolutely annoyed me. He also amazed me and he made me hope; but true to form, he really makes it difficult to love him. Whether or not you, fellow readers, will fall in love with him too… I invite you to read this book and find out.

Since the moment she could reach the shelves on the book shelf shes been reading, thus influencing her to write. Her favorite books are those that leave an imprint on your soul. You know the ones, that have you putting everything off because you have to find out what happens next.
When she's not writing or reading you can find her picking up after her three year old daughter, or explaining to her husband why its unsafe to do something any other way, than the way your wife told you too.
Shes a huge fan of all things drama, with shows like The Vampire Diaries, and Arrow being some of her favorites. She's addicted to all things social media, caffeine, and Starbucks.
