Synopsis:

He's a player in more ways than one…

College junior John Logan can get any girl he wants. For this hockey star, life is a parade of parties and hook-ups, but behind his killer grins and easygoing charm, he hides growing despair about the dead-end road he'll be forced to walk after graduation. A sexy encounter with freshman Grace Ivers is just the distraction he needs, but when a thoughtless mistake pushes her away, Logan plans to spend his final year proving to her that he's worth a second chance.

Now he's going to need to up his game…

After a less than stellar freshman year, Grace is back at Briar University, older, wiser, and so over the arrogant hockey player she nearly handed her V-card to. She's not a charity case, and she's not the quiet butterfly she was when they first hooked up. If Logan expects her to roll over and beg like all his other puck bunnies, he can think again. He wants her back? He'll have to work for it. This time around, she'll be the one in the driver's seat…and she plans on driving him wild.

My Review: ★★★★☆ 4.5 stars!

After reading THE DEAL, I just fell in love with it. When I found out it is actually the first in a series of standalones, and that it will feature Logan, I was beyond excited! Spoiler alert, spoiler alert, spoiler alert! At the end of the first book we find out that Logan is actually smitten by Garrett's Hannah! This becomes the premise for book two and led to THE MISTAKE.

I just love how the two titles of this series really signify the core plots of the books. The DEAL was obviously about a deal Garrett and Hannah made. So for THE MISTAKE, readers will soon realize what “the mistake” is in the first quarter of the story. Logan then spends the rest of the book correcting it and making up for it.

I really enjoyed this one! It has lots of funny and sweet moments, just as I expected. John Logan is a sweetheart, although there really were times when I wanted to smack him round the head. Due to family problems, he is convinced that going pro at hockey is not an option anymore; that he is doomed to run the family business and care for his alcoholic father right after graduation. Hesitating about a prospective career because there are people you love who depend on you, and that they need you to be physically present? I could totally relate to that. Fortunately for Logan he has friends and people around him who truly care about his future. One of them is Grace.

Grace Ivers is a wallflower with lots of quirks. She talks too much when she gets nervous, which usually happens around cute guys and in awkward situations. She's fond of referencing Ted Bundy and murders in general. She's not a party person, but she's not a complete bore or a very shy and timid virgin. She's a virgin who knows her mind and desires. She has a great sense of humor. With all these qualities combined, Elle Kennedy was able to create a heroine who's strong, fun, and a perfect match for this popular, cocky, egotistic hockey player who indulges in one-night-stands and bathroom hook-ups with puck bunnies.
John Logan is officially in relationship mode.

I still love book 1 better though, hence the 4.5 star rating. I was left wanting just a teeny, tiny, little bit more with this one. For example, I was hoping to hear more of Logan's weird acronyms because that was one of his identifying features in THE DEAL. We just had one acronym this time, I think.

Nevertheless, there are sooo many things to watch out for in THE MISTAKE! :D Logan is adorably romantic (but not cheesy!), and his funny and sexy banter with Grace is really fun to read. Want to see a guy without any poetic prowess try to compose a love poem? LOL just read this book!
Terrific Grace, how sweet your ass.

Garrett, Hannah, Tucker and Dean also appear several times. They even help keep the story running, which I really liked. This book made me become more eager for Dean's story too! The ultimate manwhore… I wonder what type of girl would tame his horniness??? That should be a fun one!

This series, so far, is just lovable. There's so much carefree humor in the books, but not the kind that's very outrageous or trying too hard. I love that even the sweet and romantic scenes still had a bit of humor in them! I have grown to expect this kind of narrative from Elle Kennedy now, and it's fantastic. It's very refreshing because many NA's are now leaning towards more serious plots and dramatic techniques of storytelling.
You mean this teeny thing? Let me find a magnifying glass so I can get a better look.

If anyone out there is looking for a really satisfying, light, romantic read, with lots of humor, a strong heroine and a sweet and impressive hero who works hard on on winning not just the heroine's heart but the reader's as well… I recommend THE MISTAKE :D and be sure to check out THE DEAL too! This is truly a series to watch out for. =D
