Debt Inheritance
by Pepper Winters
Book 1 of the Indebted Series

---no rating---

This is the very first book that I cannot rate. At. All. I've read this earlier this August, and up until today I still cannot make up my mind about what the story does for me. In fact this is supposed to be part of the blog tour, but as I couldn't confidently say that I enjoyed it, I thought it better to publish my review outside of the tour.

This isn't to say that I completely disliked DEBT INHERITANCE. I just can't rate it! I don't know if I can explain this clearly, but allow me to try…

The very first time I read the synopsis for this book, I was absolutely excited. It's Pepper freakin' Winters! I fell in love with DESTROYED, it was a 5-star read for me! TEARS OF TESS and QUINTESSENTIALLY Q are waiting in my kindle. These three books had quite similar themes of the hero taking captive or holding the heroine against her wishes at the beginning. A love story develops though, and these stories are written so well, readers like me end up loving them.

I was expecting the same thing for DEBT INHERITANCE, but sadly I was not prepared for its intensity and the turn of events. During the first half, I was very open about what could happen. Jethro behaved like an ass. Okay, it's still at the beginning, he might be better later on so proceed. Around 70% in the story though, Nila gets into even deeper peril and there was no relief in sight for me as the reader. I no longer enjoyed the story and a sour look was plastered on my face.

This story is definitely not for everyone. It's not for me. The story doesn't end by the last page though. In fact, things are just getting started!

So why not just give this 1 star? I can't explain it clearly even to myself! Maybe it's because of the cliffhanger. The knowledge that knowing Pepper Winters and the way the primary and secondary characters were described, not everything is as they seem. The mystery and intensity of it all just blew my mind. I was literally numb and blank when I finished reading this.

Will I read the next one? I think the better question would be can I handle the next one! I do hope I'll be gutsy enough for it because a part of me is hoping, wanting to see Jethro's change of heart. I want to see people getting killed!!! HONESTLY. I remember thinking that I wish the Black Dagger Brotherhood would crash into the scene and get rid of the vermin once and for all. They won't last five minutes, and I'll revel in reading the grisly details!

I'm not really sure I explained myself very well now, lol, and I'm sorry…! This is just really one of those mind-fuck stories that leave you too puzzled and razzled, you don't understand how you really feel about it.

My response to DEBT INHERITANCE will not cease my admiration for Pepper Winters, though. She is one of the bravest authors around, definitely. Her writing style is still the type I like to read. It was just the story in this book that put me off. Again, this might not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a dark, controversial erotica with zero romance, I guess this can be your next read. :)

Synopsis:

Warning: Please note this is book one of a series. It is a Dark Romance that will unfold slowly with many twists and turns. In true Pepper fashion there will be a HEA. You just have to see past the darkness for the light.

"I own you. I have the piece of paper to prove it. It's undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me until you've paid off your debts."

Nila Weaver's family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.

She is no longer free.

Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she's paid off a debt that's centuries old. He can do what he likes with her—nothing is out of bounds—she has to obey.

There are no rules. Only payments.

A modern day Dark Erotic Romance

Other books by Pepper Winters:

Book 1: Tears of Tess

Standalone:
Destroyed

5-STARS!!! Here's my review.

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex... her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.

Her Dark Erotica books include:
Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark #1)
Quintessentially Q (Monsters in the Dark #2)

Her Grey Romance books include:
Destroyed
