Instead, he opts to watch over his beloved from afar. And she has no idea. But Sin's sacrifice is short-lived. His bonny lass is a hunted traitor. He fears Abram's assassins are closing in, leaving him with one solution for saving Bleu--make her his wife. Marriage seems an easy fix for their dilemma but wedded bliss is brief when the couple finds trouble lying in wait beyond the realm of the brotherhood. Will the original revenge seeker find herself the object of collateral damage?
My Review: ★★★★☆ 4.5 stars
If you thought the first one was nasty because of the cliffhanger, then you better prepare yourselves for the ending of THE SECOND SIN. It was so good, which of course automatically made the thought of waiting for the third and final book frustrating. Luckily for the series' fans, that's not too far off. Book 3 releases on March. Yippee! So back to this installment. Sin is already on to Bleu's real identity and her purpose for being in his life. There's really no other option for her but to leave. Knowing the culture of The Fellowship, she is sure to be executed. So even though both have come clean about the depth of their feelings for each other, there is really no other choice but for Bleu to return to the US and Sin to continue on his legacy on being the next leader of The Fellowship.
The first thing Georgia Cates lets readers know though is that we should dare not underestimate Sin's feelings for Bleu! He finds a solution for their problem; and although it's not the most convenient solution to be honest, it does work for a lot of people involved.
Blue and Sin is pretty much the same in this book. They are just as taken with each other, perhaps even more so because they now know what the other is willing to do just so that they can stay together. On the other hand, they have gone through so much that their trust for each other was definitely tested. All the lies and all their consequences could have easily been the demise of any relationship, but these two are doing their best to get past them all and move forward. They recognize that in spite of what The Fellowship may say, both of them are definitely stronger together than apart.
It was lovely to see Sin really walk the talk, proving as best as he could that Bleu will come first before The Fellowship. He still came across as tough and very much the tough mafia leader even though in between serious conferences with his father, uncle and The Fellowship, he talks about wanting to have babies with the woman he loves—just like any regular guy.
Bleu is truly his match. She is smart. She is immensely understanding and supportive of Sin's position and his upcoming leadership, which is ironic since she is a former FBI agent. She is tough, which is a given. In this book though, she is more vulnerable and had less chance to show her kick-ass moves (there's a very good reason for this, trust me!). There was this scene where she and Sin discusses the vulnerability of the women in The Fellowship, and I thought—and hoped—that she would begin training the ladies of the group. Sadly, it didn't happen.... but there's still the third book!
One more thing: I love how the title was worked into the dialogue of the book. When it was said, who said it, I thought it was excellent! It's one of the scenes to watch out for. It was a touching moment, and a turning point as well for Bleu and Sin's relationship.
Story-wise, THE SECOND SIN ups the ante from the first book. The story just got all the more interesting! It sets up so many possibilities for the third book. This time it's not just The Fellowship that makes things complicated for our lead characters, but the authorities as well. When I finished reading, I felt really excited for the final book. I just want to know how this story will end, what will happen to certain characters, and just crossing my fingers that none of the characters I like will be harmed…!
SO, if you are in the mood for a fast read that mixes kick-ass heroine, mafia hero, dangerous situations, mafia politics and dirty cops with passion and romance, this is the series for you.
